Feed fiber fraction: Capitalize on the potential for milk
!
Fibers, or plant cell walls, contain pectin, hemicelluloses, cellulose
and lignin. These different fractions show various degrees of digestibility in the
rumen.
The major variable for feed digestibility (forage or feed) is lignin content. Lignin
is an indigestible compound that prevents the rumen micro-organisms from accessing
the cellulose and hemicellulose fractions of the fibers. To make more milk from
forage, the cellulose and hemicellulose need to be accessible. This is the effect
of Levucell®SC
